Directing subaddresses back to the Inbox

So you’ve used subaddressing for a while, and now have decided to stop. Maybe you want to switch back to POP3 for some reason and want to route all mail to the Inbox rather than to folders. Lucky you, there is an alias trick to make that happen too!

mailbox+*@example.com = [email protected]

Note that you may need to disable subaddressing for this account before this alias works.

Hopefully a few more aliasing and subaddressing tricks soon.

  1. Hi Dave
this doesn’t seem to work anymore with MD15.0.1 (not sure when it stopped working or if I am just dumb). The minus after the mailbox also confuses me a bit. Should this be a + sign?

  2. Hi Alex, you’re correct that the post should be a +, I’ve fixed that plus a few more typos. Do you have sub addressing enabled or disabled for that account?

  3. Hi Dave, with the correct “mailbox+*@example.com = [email protected]” and subaddressing disabled it finally works.

This ‘alias trick’ is actually a good way to simply enable the usage of + signs in email addresses, for the purpose to tag email addresses (ie. [email protected]).

  4. Originally this post was going to address both + and – forms of subaddressing (+ is all that MDaemon supports, but there’s a trick to support – too), but apparently when I simplified it, I went too far, sorry for the confusion.

I added a note regarding disabling sub-addressing; I don’t believe it was needed in older versions, but that may well have changed.
